THE OLD HAY BAY CHURCH was the first Methodist Church building west of the Maritimes. It was built and dedicated in 1792 and is now the oldest building in Canada owned by the United Church of Canada. The first Minister of this Church was Rev. William Losee. whose gravestone was transferred to this historic site and was erected in a cairn in the old graveyard in 1970. This may now be seen just acres the road from the Church. Although Mrs. Losee did not serve in this area with her husband, we have placed her gravestone also in the Cairn. This Church now has no congregation, but is owned and administered by the following appointed Board of Trustees: Chairman â€" Rev. Oscar E. Hagar Belleville Secretary - Mrs. S. W. D.
