FALL 1991 CANADA "Enlightenment" S usan A. Point. at Coast Salish artist, designed a print excluâ€" sively for Convention '9l. Called “Enlightenmentâ€. the overall design represents interâ€"communication and Canadian unity among the Federâ€" ated Women‘s Institutes across Canada. The strong positive and nega- tive images of eagles represent the lnstitute's strength and leadership in achieving all of its objectives and resolving all of its concerns. Around the spindle whorl (the spindle whorl representing the world and everything in it). the wide spread wings of the eagles are forming a protective umbrella which represents the protecr tion of the lnstitute‘s membership and the protection ofhuman rights as well as the environment. Within the spindle whorl itself. a mother and child are depicted representing not only the lnstitute‘s membership but their fami~ lies and their communities as well with respect to improving their quality ol'lite and other aspects ofcommunity living and resolving and/or improving the various concerns of the Federated Women's institutes of Canada. The salmon within the spindle whorl represents sustenance for many people but with the way the environment is going right now. this may no longer be. Susan. who lives in Vancouver.
