MINUTES of the THE 32nd ANNUAL GREY-BRUCE AREA CONVENTION Lucknow Community Centre was the location for the W.l. Convention on October A, 1990. The President, Mrs. Tonia Kingma welcomed the assembled members and commented on our theme, "Family and Community." TheNational Anthem and Institute Ode were sung and the MaryStewart Collect repeated. Mrs. Borden Fenton, Bruce County Rally Chairman, gave the address of Welcome. Bruce County Rally will be at Lion‘s Head on October 18, 1990. It was moved by Betty Muxlow, seconded by Gladys Coxon that the minutes be adopted as corrected. Carried. The treasurer's report was given showing a balance of $1581.78. Louise Long gave the auditors report. it was moved by Vi Chambers, seconded byJean Murray that the reports be accepted. Carried. The correspondence was read and dealt with. It was moved byIrma Clark, seconded by Irma Shortt that the P.R. Officer, June Falls and Program Coâ€"ordinator, Lee Van den Assem be the ones to go to the Workshops "May I Present" @$165.00 each. Carried. it was moved tw Donna Norton, seconded by BeSSie Lawrence that the Area Banquet continues to be at 5:30 p.m.. Carried (Bruce Centre District had requested it be held at noon) It was moved by Mrs. Eve Wismer, seonded byLinda Freiburger that we bring a bag lunch to the Convention and donate $5.00 each to a worthy cause. Defeated The Workshop Report was given by Irma Shortt. November 1, Bread Course and locations will given when the program comes. Figures will be rescheduled. 2 and 8 are the Facts, Forms and Draws were won by Eileen Brown, Lillian Albright. Sing-a-long was conducted by Wanda Keith with Elsie Houston at the piano, indeed a lively session. Mrs. Isobel Bell,resolutions Convener, reported no resolutions this year. She informed us that though we no longer have emergency resolutions, personal letters to the Ministry or whatever are far more effective. In the Handbook, page 18, resoluitons come under Citizenship and Legislation, thus reports go to Program Co-ordinator. Safety Council report was given by Helen Taylor. The Program Co-ordinator report was given by Lee Van den Assem. Public Relations report was given by June tails. lweeosmuit Curator 5 report was given by Mrs. Donelda Down for Mrs. Jack Sparling. Grey South entertained us with an amusing pantomine on chewing gum. Donna Coleman, Third Vice President, introduced the President of F.W.I.O., Mrs. Peggy Knapp. Mrs. Knapp finds the position one of great honour, but also one of challenge. In Future Planning, she told us if we are going to be a continuing organization, we must be viable and visible. Change must begin right now. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food will no longer publish W.I. magazine. We retain the name of "Home and Country” and we do need some publication. F.w.l.0. fees will rise to pay for things like publications, etc. She told us of other pending changes. Life membership discontinues in 1992. If N.l. ceased there will be no voice raised on behalf of Rural Women. W.I. has a long history of “being there” and we must rise to the challenge to this strategic plan. Centennial Celebration - 106 Logo entries and the winner was Mrs. Evelyn Jenkins, Avonnore W.I. W.I. Grace was sung and a delicigus lunch was served. The Afternoon Session opened at 1:00 p.m. led by Mrs.RuthThomas, First Vice President. The session began with a lively Singâ€"aâ€"Long. Th draw winners were: Marion Hayes, Charlotte Wilson and Vi Chambers. Mrs. Borden Fenton conducted "In Memoriam" assisted by Vi Chambers. An interesting and humorous report was also given by Helen Braithwaite and Irma Clark who attended the 75th of the founding of W.l. in Britain.
