The activities of this club were mostly in connection with the Debating League and Sports, especially Softball. Several debates were contested by the debating teams and though never winning a championship, the debaters always made a creditable showing. Opposing teams were usually from Northcote, Burnstown, Glasgow, Lochwinnoch. Various plays were produced by the "stageâ€"minded" members and on occasion they were presented on stages in other communities. It was in the athletic field that the club won its laurels. At about this time "Softball" became a popular sport in Ontario and girls and boys of this club each had a team in the field for several years. In 1927 each team was the championship softball team in Eastern Ontario. ' The club disbanded as a separate organization in 1929. In order that the softball teams would be eligible to compete in league games, their members must be memhere of one branch of the United Farmer's Organization, so the girls joined the Farm Women's Club, the boys Joined the united Farmer's Club. Twenty-five cents was the membership fee for Juniors in these organâ€" isations. In more recent years several of the girls took part in some of the Home Economics projects sponsored by the Women's Institutes, also in "Home Gardens" contests. Their showing on Achievement Day and at Renfrew Fair was always a great credit to the girls and their leaders - older girls who had coached them. Now we find those girls who were club members, young matrons and very active members of the Women's Institute in their home communities. Their club work had provided the ground work for the activities of the Women's Institutes. A Historic Note from 1917. A tax slip for the Township of Admaston shows the Countv . l .
