-14- THE ARNPRIOH HIGH SCHOOL 1365-1922 - (Continued ***$=<=**#X<************=k*******A‘<#**a=**=r#*****=‘s JEREMIAH WILSON GREY The eighth Principal was Mr. J.W.G r ey, B.A.,(Toronto), who was here from January 1895 to December 1897. During t hese three years his Assistants were Mr. W.R.Tutherford, M.A., and Miss Alice M. Wickett - two great towers of strength for any Principal to have. Mr. Grey is described as “A good steady man, and an active worker in Epworth League circles". After leaving Amprior, he is said to have gone into fruit, farming nsomewhere between Coburg and Whitby". THE NINTH PRINCIPAL From January to June 1898, the Principal was Mr. William Degeer Johnston, who obtained his B.A.degree from the Iniversity of Toronto in 1877. He came here from the Prescott High School, and when last heard of was living in Toronto. From April 1898 to June 1901, Mr. Alfred Ernest Day, M.A.(Queen'5); a Specialist in French,German, English and History, took over Miss Wickett's work, and taught it in a highly satisfactory manner. Mr. Day was held in'high esteem by all who came in Contact with him, and after leaving here is said to have taught in the Walkerton High School for a time; afterwards studying Law, and is now a member of the legal firm of Nickel,Farrell and Day of Kingston, Ontario. ARCHIBALD ELSTON MORROW The tenth Principal was Mr. Archibald Elston Morrow,B.A. ,(Toronto); a 5 Specialist in Cla ssics, and formerly Classical Master in the Belleville High School. For the six and a half years between September 1898 and December 1901,, Mr. Morrow filled the position of Principal of this school in a highly satis- factory manner. He is described as "A quiet unassuming man, a good organizer, a conscientous teacher, a sort of father to Rudlen and Day, and was very popular with his pupils". GEORGE WILLIAM RUDLEN , From September 1898 to December 1903, the work in Mathematics was in charge of Mr. G.W.Rud1en,B.A.,(Toronto) , who is a Specialist in Mathematics, and took a Postâ€"Graduate course at Chicago University before coming here. He was the choice of 1,3 applicants for the position, and his inital salary was the large sum of $650 per annum. After being here for five and a half years, he went to the Sault Ste Marie High School as Mathematical Master, and in 1915 was promoted to the position of Principal; his present salary being $1.900 - more than six times his initial salary here some twenty four years ago. ./3
