Meeting of the Women's Institute held at the home of Mrs. R. M. Gemmel, Arnprior, on Tuesday afternoon, November 3th, 1938, at two-thirty. Her Excellency, Lady Tweedsmuir, accompanied by her lady-in-waiting, Mrs. Pepe, and Lady Tweedsmuir's guest, Miss Deneke, arrived about two forty-five. Mrs. S. Wilson, the President of the Arnprior Branch, was in the chair, and Mrs. R.W. Cunningham was acting Secretary. Mrs. Galbraith, the District President of the Women‘s Institute and Mrs. Miller, the District Secretary, were present, and also about forty representatives of the different branches of the Institute in this District. The ladies were individually presented to Her Excellency by the President, Mrs. Wilson. The President called the meeting to order by singing the Institute Ode, and repeating the creed. Mrs. Wilson, the President, then spoke as follows: "Your Excellency, to-day the Arnprior Branch of the Women's Institute are indeed grateful for the honour and pleasure of your presence. The members of the women's Institute were thrilled to learn that you were an Institute Member, and an active one, and that Your Excellency, in the midst of numerous official duties, could find time to attend our meeting to-day. I can assure you your presence here this afternoon will inspire us to greater efforts in our Institute work. On behalf of the efficers and Members of the Institute, I wish you a very hearty welcome.’I Mrs. Galbraith, the District President, extended greetings on behalf of South Renfrew, as follows: "Your Excellency, it is a pleasure to welcome you to our District of South Renfrew, and especially to the Arnprior Branch of the Women's Institute. I feel they, as well as the whole District, are greatly honoured in having Your Excellency here to-day, because we know you are a busy women, and have many calls on your time. On behalf of this Branch and of all the Branches which are represented, I would like to express our deep appreciation of the fact that one one of Your Excellency's main interests is the Women's Institute. We feel that we are being encouraged in our aim, not only to live useful lives, but in trying to help others to do so. I would also like to say a word of welcome to the guests of ¥our Excellency, who have accompanied you tc-day, especially to your guest who is very welcome. We are always glad to know that the work we are doing in Canada is of interest to the Mother Country. Again, I say welcome to Your Excellency, and I hope your short visit here will be of as much pleasure to you, as it is to us." The roll was then called, the members responding by giving an interesting fact about Canada. The President mentioned the fact that of all the interesting facts given by the members in responding to the roll acll, no one mentioned the fact that Canada was the birth place of the Women's Institute. The minutes of the last meeting were then read by the Secretary and adopted. The Treasurer's report was then read by Mrs. H. Smith. The correspondence was read by the Secretary, Mrs. H. W. Cunningham. On motion by Mrs. Earl Bethune, seconded by Mrs. Jean Wilson, the Treasurer was authorized to pay an outstanding bill of $7.00 in connection with the trip to Renfrew.
