children using the new hall effectively and even expanding to the kitchen. Long overdue tribute was paid to Canon Philip Harding when a memorial grave-stone was erected at a special service of dedication. A memorial plaque for Edwin Stanley Smith presented by his family, was hung in the church. A new alter of light oak was made and presented to St. George's by Mr. Jack McKendry in memory of his parents. The church was re-roofed and a new belfry built. The Men's Club bought property on Chandos Lake and built and sold a cottage to provide the church with over $900.00 In January 1952 a great innovation took place when the members of the four congregations of the parish met for a joint vestry meeting in the Church Hall. The parish business for the first time could be discussed by all vestry members while individual congregation decisions could still be made. In July 1952 Rev. Garratt suffered a severe heart attack and was hospitalized several weeks. It was now that we received the assurance of the power of prayer. A service of intercession conducted by Rev. Geoff. Rennison of Bancroft, was held and a prayer circle of parishioners formed for daily prayer until the rector recovered and returned to the parish. However. the parish load was too heavy and we had to see Rev. Garratt reluctantly move away. However we are happy' in the knowledge that he is still hale andhearty and serving his Lord in the parish of Lucknow. For over two years 1962-64 we were cared for by "the man who came to dinner." as the Rev. Tom H. Griggs called himself.
