Waterloo North Members of this Branch prepared an inter- esting and educational program on municipal and regional governments. Members were quir/t‘d on rules and procedures for conduct- ing meetings at these levels. This was followed by a mock council meeting. with a mayor. clerk. councillors and a gallery. Sev- eral submissions by the gallery were discussed and then forwarded to the munici» ‘ pal government lor their attention. Guelph Area Wl Bolsover WI, Victoria West This Branch recently viewed an interesting video - “Dr. Woman, Elizabeth Bagshaw" - about a pioneer doctor from the Woodville~ Cannington area They also planted a maple tree on the grounds ofthe Bolsover Commue nity Centre where their meetings are held. Derry West WI, Peel South In November. this Branch sponsored a luncheon and euehre party to raise money for the Headquarters Fund. Residents ofthe local Brampton community were invited to participate. Thanks to food donations by Branch mem- bers, $250 was raised in a simple, fun way. Dufterin South District WI DuringWornen’sHistory Month, this District set up a display depicting the history of the Women‘s Institute. A special pro- gram at the Museum included a presentation on “Famous Women of Dufi‘erin County." Program Co~ordina tor, Leona Foerter, and Public Relations Officer, Barb E/g, held a Guelph Area Workshop last (all in the Fordwich Community Hall. They were very pleased with the response. The transfer occurred in exchange for the sum 0/ one dollar and on condition that the property always remain a community park to never be severed, said or mortgaged. The property was purchased by lhe Phelps Branch in 1947 for a community park. it was named Phelps Memorial Park. anda cairn was erected and a plaque installed in memory of those who served and gave their lives in World War il a the Korean War. . Waters WI, Sudbury District iona Hauhala, Life Member of the Waters Branch in the Sudbury District, presented her grandson, Daryl Rauhala, with the Waters Women 's institute Scholarship. it is awarded to a graduating student residing in the Town of Walden tor their academic excellence and par- ticipation in extra-cumcular activities.
