PROFILE: Highland Creek WI Honours Mary Miller Mary Miller's record ofinvoivement in the Women’s Institute is impressive to say the least. She first joined the Junior Women‘s Institute and served in each Execu- tive office. Later, she served a term in each Executive office in the Highland Creek Branch of the W1. from which she received a Life Membership in 1964. In York East District. Mary was President and Tweedsmuir History Curator. And she was actively involved in the York County Rally for many years in a number of ways. She served at the Central Ontario Area level as First Vice-President and Reservations Secretary. when that office was in existence. She also led many discussion groups at Area workshops Many of you may remember Mary as Sec, retary-Treasurer of the Federated Women‘s Institutes of Ontario from 1969 to [975. Folâ€" lowing this, she was Provincial Board Director for York East from 1978 to 198l. While a Board Director Mary worked on numerous committees and helped to rewrite the FWIO Handbook. For sixteen years, Mary participated on the Erland Lee (Museum) Home Committee. and from 1980 to 1985 she was Chair. On many occasions she acted as Hostess and visited the Lee Home weekly during her term as Chair. Mary was a voting delegate to both Federâ€" ated Women’s Institutes of Canada (FWIC) conventions and Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) conferences. At both levels she facilitated discussion groups on various issues and participated in presentations about the Erland Lee (Mu- seum) Home. Mary is a life member of ACWW. In addition to Institute work, Mary has given freely ofher time to many other organi- zations in the Highland Creek area. Lambtan WI Wins County Award The Lambton County Women's Institute is the winner of this years Lambton County Rural Organization of the YearAward. The award, given by Lambton County and the county office of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFHA), is presented to a local group who has made a significant and positive impact on theirmembership and the rural community. Forever. r 7,, l¢4~ADV Erland Lee Award Call for Nominations The Erland Lee Award is awarded by the Feder- ated Women’s Institutes of Canada to a man resident in the province of Ontario who has: - knowledge of the Women’s Institute and its work; a given freely of his talents to the WI; - been instrumental in raising the profile of WI outside the organization; o in their advisory position, promoted the aims and objectives of the WI through expertise in their field of work; and, - encouraged the progress of the WI as a mod- em organization for women. The Erland Lee Award Selection Committee for Ontario will accept nominations for the award irom those submitted by the Branches. Each nomination must include a full resume of the nominee, including his name, address and telephone number. Two names will be recom- mended by the Selection Committee, but the final decision rests with the Board. Two final nominees will be forwarded to FW|C. Copies of the nomination forms are available from your FWIO Board Director. The nomination form must be accompanied by a $15 cheq payable to the FWIO, All nominations must rea the FWIO Provincial Office by October 31 in the year prior to the FWIC Convention. Nominations are due this year by October 31, 1996.
