The project in Ghana has made substantial progress. Five acres of land have been cleared and three acres are under cultivation. Much has been spent on seeds. transport and plowing. Various cereals are processed to produce the weiinimix. such as mill/.C, ground nut and cowpezi beans. The community has benefited a great deal from this project, The distribution of the weanimix has helped to alleviate malnutrition of babies and small children. Women are be- ing educated on better nutrition for their children. And. as women have become in» volved With this sustainable project through the tanning of the cereals and the production of the weanimix, they have also become more empowered. The rewards are many - hugs, compliments. smiles and words of thanks. I was deeply honoured to be chosen Volunteer of the Year and made an Honouraiy Citizen of Owen Sound last year. I volunteer at the Lee Manor and Hair rison Park Seniors Centre, and coach the developmentally challenged at the West Hill Bowling Alley. I help fund raise for numerous organizations, including the Women's institutes, Big Brothers, Habi- tat for Humanity, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Grey County Historical So ciety and Archives, St. Andrews Church and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Currently 1 am the President of the Grey North District, Assistant PRO for the Grey County Rally and Chair of the GreyBruce Area, As well, I am involved in a project to commemorate this year as the International Year of Older Per- sons.
