Instead of an exchange of presents among themselves at Christmas. they make a monetary donation. The Branch Treasurer then purchases two much needed gifts for local children. Maple Leul WI, Perth North The Maple Leaf WI presented a cheque to the Elma Ward Volunteer Firemen for up- dating rescue van equipment. Another donation given earlier in the year made it possible to buy two hackboards and two radios. Lynu Valley WI, Nortolk County Lynn Valley WI members Helen Spencer. Margaret Waddle, Mildred Moore, Mar- jorie Ireland and Pauline Spencer were presented with 50 Year Pins for their years of dedication. Calvin WI, Nipissinq Calvin Women's Institute membersjoin with other women in their community to quilt every Tuesday afternoon. Glenhumie W'l, Frontenac The Glenburnie WI raised funds to purâ€" chase a “Living Tribute" in honour ofpast and present members. Members baked pies. donated groceries, performed odd jobs in the area and received donations to make this project possible. When they reached their goal. they planted a tree in the local Memorial Gardens. A bronze plaque was placed beside the tree. In addition. a window. engraved with the names ofChar» ter and Life Members. was hung in the conference room at the Glenburnie United Church where their meetings are held. Nelson WI, Halton The Nelson Women's Institute is helping name streets in newly built subdivisions in Nelson Township. Each name chosen is in memory of pioneers of the Tawnship. For their donations to the Tansley Woods Library in Burlington. a brick was laid in the entryway with Nelson Women's Insti- tute inscribed on it. This Branch has won first place at the Milton Fall fair for 4 consecutive years. They noted that while not much cash can be WoijSt being at the fair and competing. with the possibility of winning :1 ribbon or making a new friend. makes it worth the effort. The Maples Women’s Institute donated $1000 to the Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville to help obtain a (.75canner.
