To celebrate, members joined to- gether in February for an “Afternoon ofMiIlcnnium Memories." It was an Opportunity to celebrate the past and to recognize community partners and share community projects. To honour 23 years ofcommunity partnership and support of WI. Gwen Doyle (in photo at right), Waters WI PRO, presented a Friend of WI Certiï¬cate to Jean Bruser (left). Editor/owner of The Walden Observer, Doyle explained that “one of the most important aspects of any volunteer organization is getting its message out to members and the public: Who are we? What are our goals and objectives? How have we helped the community in the past? What proâ€" grams and activities do we offer? What community projects do we support? How can the public help us? Why should Women join the WI?" For the past 23 years the Waters WI has been fortunate to have the support of their community newspaper. I recruit new members. and I provide public recognition for the individuals. businesses and organizations who have helped them over the years. A special dedication ceremony and unveiling of the Waters Wl Millennium Quilted Wallhanging also took place. The handvquiltcd wallhanging feaâ€" tures the hand-embroidered Wl emblem and the names of 64 years of Waters WI members, sur» rounded by aborderofmulticoloured maple leaves. The wallhanging is permanently displayed in thc Walden Community Library and Senior Citizens Centre.
