Outgoing President Marion McPhaii (left) and outgoing Secretary Doris Calder (right) helped plant a tree at Moun tvlew institute Hall at Country Heritage Park in Milton. Each Past President and Secretary helped fill the hole with a shovel full of soil. Entertainment, games. presentations and an evening banquet rounded out the most excellent day. The day began with a gathering and ceremony in the Village of Read. allow! the store where the first meeting was held. After lunch. the Past Presidents were presented with copies of the Mâ€)! Stewart Collect to commemorate their years of service. The Tweodsmuir History Curator read a short history of the District. Stewart commented: “Cookstown. Ireland. was my birthplace where my mother was a founding member of that community's Wt. To come to Cooksto wn, Ontario. Is a unique experience for me. Thanks to Joan Drysclale from Tec-Wevalil. whom I met earlier, l was given this opportunity to attend this special event and visit our sister Cooksto M! in Canada. Robert Winslow, founder of the Fourth Line Theatre, introduced playwright Leanna Brodie and actress Adele Flnney. who periormed two scenes from a play called "Home and Country" that was part of the Theatre schedule this past summer. Stmcoe South ,Wyebridge WI, Simme Centre An afternoon Tee was held last July to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Wyebridge WI. with 105 in attendance. Four past members, including two centenarians, were honoured guests. Wl dignitaries and representatives from four levels of government extended congratulatory greetings. Members from all Branches in Slmcoe Centre and from two Branches In Simone North shared the afternoon. The community centre was decorated with displays at antique china, quilts, furniture, clothing. utensils and tools. A timeline highlighting the Branch's accomplishments through the years proved it has reached out to those in the local community, across Canada and around the world.
