Entries are to be received no later than March I. 2006 Senator Cairine Wilson Competition This Competition is open to individual Women‘slnstitute members The Senator Cairine Wilson Silver Rose Bowl Trophy. first awarded in 1957, is presented forthe most outstanding proiect in Citizenship. For the 2003-2000 triennium. the Competition is to write about our own Women's Institute members who demonstrate qualities outlined in the Mary Stewart Collect and who have contributed to the development of a Highland Creek WI Receives Heritage Award Branch or Branches. She may be the member that started your Branch or someone who keeps the Branch learning and supporting their community. There are hundreds of members who could have their contribution acknowledged and celebrated! While Adapting to Change" Registration packages can be found on the FWIC website at. www naldca/fWic htm Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead Update In November 2003, Adelaide Hunter Hoodless was inducted into Brantford's Walk of Fame II you are in the area. go check out the monument near Brantford‘s City Hall Adelaide‘s contributionstothecommunity. Canada and the world were recognized in the ceremony attended by many dignitaries and Women's Institute representatives. Since March of 1908 the Highland Creek Women‘s Institute has served the community well In recognition of theiryears ofservice to their community, Heritage Ontario presented the Branch With a Heritage Award Long-time President Mary Miller and Secretary Evelyn Dempsey accepted the Award on behalf of the group Shown from left to right is Scarborough Archivist Richard Schoheld and WI members Lois McAuley, Evelyn Dempsey. Doreen Burton and Clara Lahmer With the support of the Scarborough Historical Society, Mr Schofield recommended the Highland Creek WI for the award Several weeks later, the Historical Society organized a slide presentation at the Bendale Public Library highlighting the Branch's achievements throughout its 96â€"year history Sulmiitled [7y Evalin Dt‘mpst’y, Secretary, Highland Crrrlz Wl, Yo rt: East. Ci’l‘lll'fll Arm A beautiful Iroquois ceramic sculpture presented during the ceremony is on display at the Homestead. The Homestead has seen many changes and improvements. A new roof and windows are now in place, blinds for the windows have been installed (thanks to the Hamilton Area WI) and the exterior of the Homestead has been painted, The National Office has moved into the apartment attached to the rear of the Homestead. Grants are being applied for to do renovations to the kitchen area to make the space more suitable for group functions. CUrator Karen Richardson has been hired to work fifteen hours a week. Parks Canada is creating a 3â€"D Virtual Tour ofthe Adelaide Hoodless Homestead and the Erland Lee (Museum) Home on their website. So keep your eye on that site!
