Thediscussionsofelderabuseassessment and intervention emphasized that any action or inaction by an individual or institution that results in harm or neglect of an elderly person is considered neglect There are many forms of abuse ~ physical. psychological. financial and institutional Neglect can be intentional where the caregiver intends to be neglectfui or it can be passive where the caregiver is simply unaware of the neglectful circumstances. Six focus groups met throughout the summer months to further discu55ions. Staff and interns from the Ontario Seniors' Secretariat provided additional support for the proiect. which falls under the Ministry of Citizenship of Ontario Steering Committee participants included representatives from the following organizations and institutions: the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care CCAC Branch.
