it p Renfrew County ‘3‘ , Readers Inspired by Mary-Joan Hale, librarian at the Greater Madawaska Library and Ontario Government, Calabogie WI hosted their first ROSE Session. Renfrew County Reads is a book club for the entire county to promote reading and discussion by bringing people together around"one great book". Selected for this innaugral program was CBC Broadcaster and Bestselling author Mary Cook. The book is her latest "Another Place at the Table” and is based on her mothers life g growing up on a farm in Renfrew County a during the 30’s. 7 H __ _, WI Members decorated the community hall with antiques and quilts and dressed in 30’s attire. Approximately 40 people were there to hear Mary talk about her book and life. Mary spent time autographing books for attendees and donations were accepted for the library. A Day ForYou Over 25 participants attended a "Day for You" hosted by the Temiskaming WI. For a small admission fee of $15, guests enjoyed several workshops, displays and a delicious lunch. The purpose of this session was to increase the number of people that show at the fair and to give everyone a chance of winning. The response from the audience was extremely positive. It is quite an art to chose the right combination of flowers to make those planters bloom all summer. Many vegetables can be grown on balconies and patios. - Organize a farm tour for local school children â€" many have never been on a farm and would be thrilled to see calves, pigs, horses and barn cats. Children love to pick bunches of buttercups to bring home for Mom! The Alfred Watt Memorial WI held a ROSE Program on Financial Planning recently. Although just six IDEOP'e attended, the group still feels the effort was worthwhile. There was information distributed, 5n3Ck5 and refreshments and the small turn out allowed a friendly and informative session. WI Member June Mason writes ’“Everyone felt they had learned something from the presentation and that having a simple ROSE Program like this was worthwhile. We were discussing future programs and perhaps I get together and combine our efforts. I feel some Branches have been discouraged from having a program as they felt it sho be more elaborate and involve a great deal of preparation. We are quite prepared to add a ROSE Program to our agenda for flex 3
