Quilting for a Cause The Big Lake WI participated in a Thirty Hour Quilting Marathon, on Manitoulin Island. Ten groups of ladies, each working for three hours, were responsible for quilting and collecting pledges from sponsors, so that each hour of quilting brought in donations. The Big Lake Women’s Institute raised $1,587, With $16,000 raised on Manitoulin Island. This beautiful quilt will be auctioned, with the money raised going towards the 'Daf‘fodil Centre in Sudbury. The instructor, Carol Lacey (in the white top) is president of Norfolk District WI, and a Member of St. Williams Branch. Branches in Prescott District rocked their fundraising by selling tickets on a beautiful handmade rocking horse. The result was a fantastic donation of $2,740 to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). The Bank of Nova Scotia in Vankleek Hill matched S740 and contributed by selling tickets. The cheque was presented during the annual CHEO Telethon and the donation was matched by the Telethon Miracle Match sponsored by Rexal Pharmacy.
