ROSE Buddies projects are underway across the province and so far, students and seniors are thoroughly enjoying the chance to meet one another, share stories and have some laughs. ROSE Buddies Facthator Joyce Haines has been busy on Amherst Island, xxxx District, where students in grades 6-8 have been interviewing local seniors. Joyce reports that ï¬ve ofthe six seniors went to school, at least high school, in the room wherethey met each week. Although the seniors, ranging from 65-83 years, were really eager some were a little fearful of not remembering. The whole community is supporting the project with the teacher creating an invitation and the local radio station agreeing to record interviews and readings from some of the stories. The interviews will be broadcast early this year. What a great way to promote the WI and acknowledge all the hard work ofthe students and seniors. Another ROSE Buddies success story at the East Garafraxa Public School in Dufferin County. ROSE Buddies Facilitators Jennie Wilgress and Joy Trimble teamed up with this school to create a project that students, and seniors were excited about, Grade 8 teacher Mr. Mead jumped in to assist by scanning photos, creating a wrap up video for the celebration and recruiting parents to assist with the scrapbooking. The local Wl’s supported the festivities by providing snacks and refreshments for the seniors, students and guests at the celebration. Facilitating a ROSE Buddies project takes a big commitment from these dedicated WI Members, There are many challenges to be overcome, and a certain level of energy to be maintained when working with students. Thank you Joyce, Jennie and Joy for all you have done to help make ROSE Buddies a success. You have gone the extra mile to support WI and make a difference in your communities â€" we are all proud cc ' of you and grateful for your dedication! The goal of the ROSE Buddies project is to expand into other topic areas and programs. If you have an idea for how we can work with the youth in the community, send your suggestions to roseprogram@fwio.on.ca.
