Bernice. a member of Gloucester Glen Wl, was District President from 1967 to 1969 and her progress through all levels of Women's Institute has been watched in admiration. Several years ago. a competition open to all members in Ottawa Area, the Bernice Noblitt Awards. was in‘ stituied in her honour. The order of these awards is â€" first year for handi- crafts. second year for sculpture. painting and similar crafts. third year for playwiriting. prose and poetry and then the order is repeated. GLEN OGILVIE In l919. Glen Ogilvie Branch was formed. Named for several Ogilvie families who lived there. this area is now pan of the newlycreated City of Gloucester which borders the City of Ottawa to the south and east. A very active member in Glen Ogilvie's early days. Maria Hopkins was the author of a resolution reâ€" questing that women be given the right to sit on a jury. Mrs. Hopkins was also instrumental in closing a pub on Montreal Road and a race track at Sulphur Springs! An outstanding member is Tweedsâ€" muir History Curator. Mrs. Anne Elliott. As well as preserving their WI history. Anne wrote a booklet on Blackburn-Glen Ogilvie as a centen~ nial project. Beginning with the i‘WlC Conference in New Brunswick. mem- bers of the branch have attended the ACWW Conference in British Col- umbia, the FWIC Conference in London and recently.
