There is an awareness among Canâ€" adians that the peace precess involves not only government. but citizens as well. It is through their efforts that the political will necessary for further advancement is generated. My govern» nicnt recognizes the positive con- tribUtions that can be made by Cana- dians and encourages them to be ac- tive participants in the quest for world peace. In the weeks ahead, we will be looking to Canadians for their views on how our country can best \CTVE the cause of peace. and I can .tssure you your comments will be part of our assessment.” Jane! D. Federated Women's lnslitules of Ontario Committee on Women ’s Institutes of the Future The Committee on Women‘s Instiâ€" tutes ofthe Future (CWIF) was busy with meetings during the winter and spring months. Members would like to thank all those who took the time rind effort to make submissions to the committee. Here is a synopsis of the results of the questionnaire sent to every W1 branch. ‘ branch members are generally not interested in what happnes beyond their own individual branches ‘ they are satisfied with things the way they are ' don’t want to see area conventions changed ' want to use a provincial theme for programming ' are in favor of a president-elem position at the provincial level 0 are not in favor of severing rela- tionships with the Ontario Minis- try of Agriculture and Food D are not in favor of having a pro- vincial office strictly on our own Two recommendations presented by CWlF were approved at the April semi-annual meeting of the FWlO board. One is that workshops on a specific topic be held at provincial level for area and district level representatives who then return home to conduct local workshops and re- port the results. This is not in lieu of Officers” Conference. The rationale for this recommendation includes the involvement of more women in lea‘ dership training. less time and travel would be involved. conveners would not just be report writers. nicmhcrs would be more capable and therefore would seek leadership roles and one day workshops would more readily accommodate working members. The second recommendation is that a provincial convention be held in l987 in conjunction with the 90th anniversary of the founding of Wom~ en's Institutes, Two other recommendations deal- ing with the establishment of a pre- sident-elect position at the provincial level and the hiring of an executive director by FWIO have been referred to the constitution committee. More news on these two recommendations will be available aftcr the November annual meeting of FWIO. H & C Summer '85 ll
