1R Cowal. Elgin West District With the aid of an Ontario bicentennial grant members of. Cowal W,l. have published the Tweedsmuir History of their comâ€" munity. This project started in 1967 under the then curator Mrs. Marion Campbell. With a great deal of en- thusiasm the history of most of the farms in the area. also the general history of Cowal was collected. Like many great ideas nothing much was done for several years except Show the Tweedsmuir History on ap- propriate occasions. Nearing the end of her term of office the present curator Mrs. Yvonne McCallum spent many hours updating the farm histories also going through niicrofilms of newspapers glecming points of interest of the Cowal area. At the last minute we applied for a bicentennial grant and with the aid of a loan from our branch. 500 copies of the (‘owal History was printed in both soft and hard cover, The books arrived at the beginning oi November and are being snapped tip. Many families are buying several copies so that all mcmbcrs will have a history ol’ the Cowal community.
