Mrs. Keith Hiepleh, President of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario. welcomed all to the Annual Board meeting, especially the Board Directors attending their first Provincial meeting. PRESIDENT’S REPORT Mrs. K. Hiepleh Mrs. Hiepleh expressed her appreciation for the co- Operation and assistance of the Executive and Board Direc- tors in this her first year as President. She attended Anniversaries, local WI meetings, District Annuals. all fourteen Area Conventions, Rallies, luncheons as well as meetings on behalf of FWIO. She participated in the Ontario Conference on Agriculture 1981. Royal Fair meetings, special days at the Lee, Officers' Conference and the unveiling ceremonies at the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame. The President with her committee have arranged for the 85th anniversary celebrations. Several requests have been received for the Certificate of Merit, which branches are using to honor dedicated members. The pierced oval badge is available from the FWIO office for $6.00. The questionnaire on the Rural Women's Study and Re- stitution was completed by 950 branches. The information has been compiled and returned to FWIC. Mrs. Hiepleh urged support of the present WI projects and urges all. in an all-out effort to gain new members in every branch. SECRETARY’S REPORT Mrs. J. VanSickle The Secretary has completed all the necessary corres- pondence for the year. including minutes of the Semi- annual Board Meeting and letters pertaining to the business of FWIO. The correspondence mailed, was necessary for the election of the eight new Board Directors, as well as the mailings for the annual meeting. Mrs VanSickle attended all the meetings held during the year. She also assisted in entertaining the National President, Mrs. Oddie when she attended Officers' Conference. TREASURER‘S REPORT Mrs. Clifford Ritchie The Treasurer presented the annual financial report. indi- cating efficient management of the FWIO funds. Mrs. Ritchie paid the expenses and dealt with any investments that were necessary. She had mailed the scholarship che- ques to the winners. received all the fees from the branches. and attended Finance, Officers’ Conference, 85th Anniver- sary and Executive meetings. Mrs. Ritchie also attended the Southwestern Day and Christmas at the Lee. 8 ROYAL WINTER FAIR Mrs. Barbara Saari Mrs. Saari and Mrs. I-Iiepleh represented FWIO at the World Championship Trophy presentation at the Royal. Dr, C. M. Switzer, Dean of the Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph, guest speaker. spoke about the available courses at the University of Guelph. The field crop in the spotlight this year. was corn, and it was noted that the winners in the cob corn and shelled corn were the same men who won in these categories in l980. The United States and Canada were well represented in the winner’s circle, however, the shelled corn winner hailed from Zimbabwe. ROYAL WINTER FAIR REST AREA Mrs. Wm. G. Miller Once again the Women's Institute had a rest area at the Royal, and 865 visitors came from the United States, Scot- land. England, Isle of Man and Mexico, as well as from across Canada. It was agreed by the Board that this service should con- tinue in 1982. INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP Mrs. F. Pajamaki FWIO will purchase Unums (International term $1.00 = 1 unum) to the value of $246 for UNESCO Coupon UCA 71, Co-Action project for Water and Sanitation for All. Funds amounting to $3500.00 from accumulated interest from the lntemational Scholarship Fund will be sent directly to the ACWW Project Secretary, Mrs. Reta Brown for special child care courses at Ware College. Overseas stu- dents who will benefit are from Zambia, Egypt and Ghana. A letter is to be sent to ACWW, asking for an investi- gation regarding the possibility of establishing child care courses in countries where needed. FWIO SCHOLARSHIPS Mrs. Willis Matbeson FWIO District, County and Area Scholarships were ratified for Algoma, Northumberland East and West and Prince Edward County. Twenty Macdonald Award reci- pients were chosen. they will be presented with their awards by the President early in the new year. The Macdonald Award recipients will receive $200.00 in 1982, Winners of the special scholarships were Dorothy Futcher Scholarship, Pauline Taylor, Enniskillen; Flor- ence P. Eadie Scholarship, Janice Kemp, Kakabeka Falls; FWIO 60th Anniversary Scholarship, Jackie Barrett, Hastings; Hoodless-Lee Scholarship, Sandra Noble, Dor- chester.
