Ontario Junior Women ’S Institutes Nancy Alton, Board Director, FWIO ANNUAL FALL CONFERENCE Approximately 75 members registered at Brock Univer- sity for the two day Convention which was hosted by the three Junior Wl‘s in that area; Niagara District, Wainfleet and Stevensville. The President, Donna Clark was in charge of the meeting. The JWIO members have been extremely busy during the past year and have accomplished much. From the proceeds of this project a $400.00 donation was given to the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead Fund. In recognition of the International Year of the Disabled. a donation is being made for trophies for the Olympics for the Disabled in the summer of 1982. A new information brochure has been designed and is available from the FWIO office. free. however contribu- tions will be accepted to cover cost. The .IWIO's diSplay at the WI Hall at the Ontario Ag» ricultural Museum was updated during 1981 and included a scroll outlining the history and objectives and featured photos of branch activities. The booklet "A Little Bit More of Everything". and the new information brochure were also featured. A plan to include all the Junior Women‘s Institutes of Ontario Presidents is underway. and will be included in the 1982 display. It was a disappointment that no one applied for the $100.001WIO Award in 198l. An Award of Merit was designed and the first five reci- pients were. Marion Koepke (North Grey). Marion Feldskov (Howick). Jerry Brown. Carolyn Skulj and Nancy Yungbiut (all from Niagara District.) Guest Speaker at the Conference. Senator Martha Bielish. ACWW Vice President for Canada and Past Presi- dent ot' FWIC. spoke about some of the activities of these organizations. She told about the duties and the role a Senator plays. A tour was enjoyed by the delegates to a local vineyard and then to Brights Winery. and on to see Niagara and a view of the Falls from the Skylon Tower. Mrs. Gordon Mallion. representing the FWIO President Mrs. Keith Hiepleh. conducted the election of officers. Guest speakers have highlighted topics of health care and family life, as well as women in agriculture, the disabled. photography. aspects of the law, block parent programs and parliamentary procedures. Many educational demonstrations of crafts. food. landscaping and cosmetics have been presented by members and guests. Activities included tours of museums, photography studios. and the police college. cookie exchange. live theatre. travel. ing dinner, card party and bus trips. Family members were involved in barbeques, hay rides, skating, caroling and swimming. Members supported numerous community pro~ jects and held fund raising activities to continue their sup- port of these projects. Special thanks was extended by Nancy Alton to the Federated Women‘s Institutes of Ontario for their support and encouragement of the JWIO in their work with the young women in the province. JUNIOR WOMEN’S INSTITUTES OF ONTARIO AWARD FOR FURTHER EDUCATION The JWIO Award. amounting to $100.00 is presented annually to a JWIO member to further her education in either a degree or diploma course beyond secon- dary school. Members are urged to apply for this Award in 1982. AWARD OF MERIT Recipients are chosen. based on positions held in JWIO at the Branch and Provincial level. Their involvement on committees. FWIO involvement and individual participation in other community activities. 1982 ANNUAL FALL CONFERENCE The Conference will be held the third weekâ€"end in October in the Owen Sound Area. Hostess â€" North Grey Junior Women's Institute. MEMBERSHIP There are nineteen Junior Women‘s Institutes in Ontario with a paid-up membership of approximately 325 members. Two new Branches were formed during the year; Hal- dimand with 21 charter members and the Stevensville Branch with 7 Charter members. The other Branches include Brant County. North Grey. Hastings. Howick, Lucknow. Niagara District, Norfolk. Peel County. St. Thomas. Jean Scott (Guelph). Village People. Wainfleet. Walter’s Falls, Riverside. Maple Keys. West End and Precious Corners.
