Terrariums Terrariums are becoming quite popular. probably because they need so little can: and yet look so attractive in the home. Making your oWn terrariurn can be economical and easy if you use bottles you already have. such as brandy snilters. preserve jars. fish tanks or condiment jars. Just make certain the neck of the bottle is wide enough to place the plants in. and that it is clean. dry. and preferably clear, not tinted. It is also important to choose plants that need the same humidity. light and soil conditions. Before placing plants in. cover the bottom of the bottle with a layer of fine gravel. Add a handful of charcoal to keep the soil sweet, and a layer of sphagnum moss will help the drainage, Slerilized soil is then added to the desired level. The best way to place plants into the bottle through the narrow neck, is to use long-ham died tools. These can be made by attaching dowel rods to a hook. spoon and razor blade, These are used to lower the plant, dig holes and trim the plant once it's in. Several points should be considered to keep the terrarium flourishing. Keep it in bright, but filtered light. not direct sun. Keep your plants pruned and remove any dead leaves. To reduce condensation on the inside of the bottle. remove the cover. Making a terrarium can be inexpensive and fun. Finding a use for that container you've been saving can result in a beautiful miniature garden to decorate your home inexpensively.
