ERLAND LEE (MUSEUM) HOME A new Committee Was elected at the FWIO Annual Board meeting to be headed by Mrs. Wm. G. Miller, Mrs. Miller, a member since 1970, succeeds Mrs, Austin Zoeller who resigned, having served as chairman for the last ten years. [n the ‘beginning‘ years the funds were handled by the FWIO secretaryâ€"treasurer, however during the last two years a committee with its own secretary-treasurer was appointed. Mrs. Earl Morden assumed the duties of the first secretary treasurer of the Lee Committee. Mrs. Robt. B. Weber will take over from Mrs. Morden who now will become a Research and Resource person. providing information concerning available grants and new resource areas. to strengthen the Lee. Back in the mid 60's, a committee was appointed to i explore the possibility to purchase the 1.9 acres of land t situated on Ridge Road in Stoney Creek including the l Lee Home, a barn and hired man's house. Mrs. Russell :Wise and Mrs. Allan Dickinson both Board Directors 1 from the Hamilton Area as well as the then President 1 Mrs. L. G. Lymburner and Director Miss Helen J McKercher were charged with this responsibility. Upon the resignation of the two Hamilton members, the then President, Mrs Austin Zoeller, and Secretary» treasurer, Mrs. Wm. G. Miller, of FWIO replaced them, the Committee were to devise a plan to purchase - ahe property for $40,000.00 The last $5,000.00 came t'rorn an interested WI member during the Annual Board meeting in 1971, so the fund-raising for the ‘ property was completed. Since then the home has been completely furnished . by donations from members and interested individuals, the barn has been renovated as a display and demon- .tration area, allowing additional functions to take place .tnd now is known as the Drive House. The hired man's house is rented to tenants at this time. ‘ The Foundation Fund goal of $100,000.00 has been , achieved. This money is invested and the interest will be used for the daily operation of the Home. Under the umbrella of FW-‘O the ‘Lee' continues to he a meaningful project, attempting to preserve the ‘ history of the Women’s Institute and the lifestyle ofthe t897’s. The newly appointed committee will determine the direction the Lee will take and how this can be ‘ achieved in the 80‘s.
