Pauline McGibbon, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario speaking on ‘The Crown in Cana- da'. Representatives from all the branches in Bruce South District were present as well as the Board Director, Mrs. W. Middleton, Mrs. Margaret MacArthur. Area VP and Mrs. Fred Friar, Rally President. Over 100 members and former members attended a luncheon while many other guests arrived to hear ‘I-ler Honour' and enjoy afternoon tea. Mrs. McGibbon and party were piped in by Mr. Larry Needham later to be greeted by the President, Mrs. Walter Lock assisted by Mrs. Ross Cumming and Mrs. Francis Gemmell. Mrs. Lott Culbert and Mrs. Ross Martyn. two longtime members had the honor of being presented to Mrs. McGibbon. Of special interest, a certificate of honour was presented to nine members who have belonged to Ripley for 40 years or more. Guitarist, Cathy Nugent sang her own composition, A Thought’s Eternity. In honor of IYC. a laryngoscope, used to examine the larynx. especially needed for children, was donated to Kincardine and District Hospital. A plaque will later be hung in Ripley Medical Centre. IONA WI. ELGIN WEST DISTRICT, celebrated their 70th anniversary by including former members and all branch members within the District. PRESERVE HISTORY The BECKWITI-I W.I. of Lanark North Di- preserve vital history with the dedication of “The ' Kirk†Cairn near Carleton Place. Approximately 150 people gathered for the dedic ceremony of a cairn erected to commemorate pioneer congregations and ministers of “The ‘ Kirk†built on the 7th line, Beckwith, in 1832. The cairn has been built of stones from the rut the church. by a scottish stonemason who learno trade in Aberdeen, Scotland, the city where the minister attended college. It is located on the prt‘. now owned by Wilfred F. Prachter, who drew 99ayear lease with the Township of Beckwith to pi the site. The Beckwith Women‘s Institute promote: project and were assisted with monetary funds both Mr. Frachter and the Ministry of Culture Recreation. To the tune of bagpipe music reminiscent o Perthshire hills in Scotland from whence their anc. came in 1818, many descendants of those early pit families congregated with newcomers to the distr: see this historic cairn unveiled by Mrs. Lloyd Bur 2nd Vice President of the Beckwith W.I. and Wilfred Prachter.
