management was explained through discussions, exam- ples, role play and group exercises. SPEAK WITH EASE The girls learned how to think on their feet, feel confident before a group. Some of the group then had an opportunity to speak at the banquet, CREATIVE SKETCHES IN DRAMA was headed by Mrs. Wrn, Needles. Lots of ideas were promoted on skits for achievement days. From a single thought aided by simâ€" pie props, Mrs. Needles helped the group develop skits. Usually the girls know their stuff but getting it across can be troublesome. First and foremost, “if kids stop and giggle they really don’t believe what they are doing in the skit." Brain storm first for ideas, accept all ideas â€" no judgment should be made at this point. Through group thinking an elimination process can lead to a single idea or theme which then can be developed. Learn to pace dialogue, punctuate with pauses, use sound effects, keep punch line for end, were the key points for good skit production. - A i z \ .' ~ Mrs. Wm. As a wife and mother and full time career person she is constantly stimulated by observing life around her. As Young women attending this Conference you will be looking forward to the future and looking forward to the direction your lives will be taking. She finds the IYC year a bit odd, why the need to set aside the year only to have enthusiasm wane at the end? What is IYC all about? It is difficult to understand the needs of parents in a developing world, many can’t understand what it’s like to starve. What does it mean to you? ‘ Give kids more things to do, more time for self. The important requisite â€" kids not things â€" children are people whose needs and desires should be met. All too frequently we shunt aside our children, when this hap» pens we are missing the boat and create a sad state for society. Children are not meant to be handled but nur- tured and cared for so they will become sensible adults. Family life has undergone radical changes too quick» ly. as a result a rash number of divorces. single parents, etc. Children often become scapegoats emotionally and physically abused, the newspapers pick up these situa- tions but there is no coverage of normal family life in the papers to rethink the situation about home. it is here life for children begin. “Family life is where it‘s all about for me, parenting means father and mother." There is much less pressure to have children than in your mother‘s day in your mother's day they felt fulfilled. We should see choice of parenting as a positive move for children with more involvement of fathers. Choosing to be a parent means choosing to spend time with your child. Fathers never realize the amount of emotion that goes into the raising of a child. Con- stant pressure for them to earn money as well as a subtle peer pressure, mothers should help to negate these pressures. Affluence doesn’t necessarily mean happiness. A child can only feel love and trust by having parents who assume parenting responsibility. Children are not instant successes or failures, Schools should not be teaching our children morals and values. As a family, one must give of oneself, create a loving environment. compromise and accept weaknesses and strengths of the family members. Family life needs the giving of oneself, the ability to relate responsibly and positively to the outside. Children are worth the time, pain, heartache. Hearing a child’s first words, seeing the world through the eyes of a child is nothing short of miraculous.
