Introducing Norma G. Howe Mrs. Fred Hone. RR. 5. Embro. Provincial Tiieeds- mutr History Curator. A Perth County native. Norma is the only dough- tcr of Mr. & Mrs. Norman Cotilthtird of St. Patils. Site are“ up in an Institute family environment. her mother is a life member ofSt. Pauls Branch and a for- mer Board Director. Norma married Fred Howe and together they farm iii Zorrti Township. Oxford County. Their thrce chil- dren all have different interests. Gordon is the sports- man. Brenda a 4-Her and Sandra the highland dancer, in F955 Norma joined the Stratford Junior Women‘s Institute and was secretary for two years. After marriage she transferred her membership to Braenitir W.l. and has belonged for 33 years. An active member. she has held the ofï¬ce of Presi- dent as well as President of the Oxford North District. At present She holds the office of Curator. Inter- nationally she is .1 life member of A.C.W.W. Community and church activities take much of her time. She serves on the Board of Managers and is President of the Ladies Aid and a life member of the W.i‘vl.S. Every Sunday ï¬nds her singing in the church choir and she is kept busy as a soloist at weddings. Interested in the activities of her children. she has led 4â€"H Homemaking Clubs and is presently ti menu» ber of the Board of Western Ontario Highland Danc- ers Association. Ari entirely new venture. and one that will take a great deal of work. Norma now is chairlady of the Women‘s Program for the International Plowing Match which will be held in Oxford County in I980. The ofï¬ce of Tweedsmuir History Curator for F.W.I.O. comes as a real challenge. but with her en- thusiasm and great curiosity to learn. we are lucky to have this talent. Because of con- straints. there will not be any Tweedsmuir History Workshops provided by the Home Economics Branch in the coming year. Mrs. Home succeeds Mrs, R. C. The Iiidics started out with an old-fashioned ing bee. the result-Va delightful selection ofdctiii "litiggable" toys. Secondly. three major toy compa were contacted. They quickly showed how gene- big business can be. Somewille Belkin Industries l donated some Plttyskonl toys. and Mattel Canada donated a toy and very kindly invited the comm“ down to their factory to purchase directly from 1: company store. Fisher Price Sales Canada donait 35 lb. (that‘s to kilograms for the metric-minded] of reconditioned toys. which included a hospital and ti crib activity centre. A fundzraising bliu. of organizations in the iii hospital community also comprised a part ofthe p jcct. A hefty $240 was raised. thanks to the gEnL'li response ofti number of groups. including some oi i area Women‘s Institutes. The Lucknow .lr. W.|., i Lucknow Sr. W.l.. thc Bluevalc W.l.. the Teewm Wt. the Belgrave W.l.. and the Holymod W.l chipped in. along with several other service organ: tions. After a day trip lo Toronto. Sheila and (with Wilma Clark as navigator) were amazed to just how many toys 5240 could buy. it very nearly came a question of who would have to ride on top the way home! Finally. a used toy drive was held in two ion with the help oftlie local schools and newspapers. i yearâ€"long project culminated with the delivery v great mass of boxes being delivered to the hospiizi May. Local newspapers sent reporters to photogr. the hospital toddlers at play. and included articlo their papers to thank the many community pat: pants in the endeavour. Thanks to the support A warm-hearted community that really cares about hospital. and to the interest of the Kairshea lac . little ones who ï¬nd themselves in Wingham Hosp l now will have a wonderful batch of toys to alien their fears and ease their visit. As was noted by one participant. the plaer ‘1 must be on the right track. Every child who has mail the pile of toys so far. can't wait to get sick . . . _terday. at the very latest!
