WHEREAS under the present laws, the only way that a woman can contribute to Canada Pension Plan is to work away from home and be paid a salary: and WHEREAS many women by reason of separation or divorce are denied benefit of their husbands. pension: THEREFORE be it resolved that the Federated Women‘s Institutes of Ontario request the Federal Government to devise a plan whereby all women can pay into and receive benefits from the Canada Pension Plan. WHEREAS the chemical food colorant Amaranth (red dye #2) has been linked to cancer in studies done in US. and U.S,S.R.: and WHEREAS the use of Amaranth as a food colorant has been banned in the above two countries as a result of these studies: and WHEREAS there is no proof that the use of Amaranth even at the levels currently permitted in Canada is safe; THEREFORE be it resolved that the Federated Women‘s Institutes of Ontario ask the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Canada to ban use of Amaranth in food products sold in Canada. NORTH CENTRAL EMERGENCY WHEREAS we have heard over CFRB that Canada Council grants were being given for ridiculous proj- ects. and we read in his report from Ottawa in [he loâ€" cal weekly newspaper by Sinclair Stevens MP for York. Simcoe. of those projects. bttt he also reports that grants have been given to writers repeatedly who have turned ottt poetry or prose which is obscene: and WHEREAS. that over 50% ofCanada Council grants have been given to non-Canadians. THEREFORE be it resolved that the FWIO request and urge the Secretary of State that he direct the Can- ada Council to expend no more of the Canada tax- payers money for frivolous projects to writers whose output is obscene. Also we suggest that a lunch larger portion of Canada Council grants be given to Cana- dians. l |
