HOME ECONOMICS REPORT Miss Molly McGhee. Director Grants of over $6,000.00 were given to Districts and Areas last year by the Home Economics Branch through the Ministry of Agriculture and. Food. Also travelling expenses of $1229.00 were pa‘td to enable one delegate from each Northern Ontario Branch to attend their Area Convention. A special thanks to all who acted as leaders. a'very high percentage of whom are Wl members. Statistics showed that numbers had increased in most of the; Courses. Summary Days increased over 3.000 making a total attendance-of l0.l79: short courses food forums and workshops involved 5.05]: 4H Homemaking club members increased 2000 making the final numbers 28.343. A decrease of 2.000 in the attendance at train- ing schools was experienced however there were 13.111 participants. Miss McGhee pointed out the popularity of Home Crafts. not all requests are able to be filled. The Home Economics Branch received approximately I500 tele- phone inquiries involving the foods section alone. about I40 hours of research were needed to answer these requests. The food section did a TV Programme on Cable 10 entitled “Make Every Day Count" as well as 3 public presentations. Certificates were presented to 215 women completing five or more years as club leaders. 32.725 leaders and members received silver spoons for satisfactory completion of projects. In recognition of their contribution for service 505 4H Homemaking Club leaders attended the Royal Ag- ricultural Winter Fair as guests of the Ontario Minâ€" islry of Agriculture and Food. Five hundred and eightyâ€"one girls took part in the 4H Homemaking Club programme at the CNE. Cen- tral Canada Exhibition. Lakehead Exhibition. Peter- borough Exhibition and Western Fair. At Class “B” Fairs Home Economists co-operated with Fair Boards in the development of 512 educational exhibits dis- played by 4H Homemaking Clubs and Junior Women’s institutes.
