(confirmed from page 27) We have sold over six thousand hasti-notes and twenty thousand serviettes. The spoons were late in ar- riving but have been purchased readily by those v13- iting the Home after they did go on sale; the place mats were even later in arriving so there is an ample supply on hand now. Surprisingly. the Committee have received so few letters about your visits to the Home, your ideas, sug- gestiOns and where we might improve next year. Because this project is Cit-going and never really will be ï¬nished. there is a continuing need for support. moral and ï¬nancial. The Committee have enjoyed working for you in the preservation of the Erland Lee Home. on Ridge Road. Stoney Creek. Margaret Zoeller. Chairman. Erland Lee Home. Quilts (continued from page 25) Colour and design are still important and is the ex- pression of oneself. Whether the colour harmony is similar or contrasting. depends on the individual taste and where the quilt will be used. Designs are often taken from nature. animals. parts of buildings. but the secret is to provide an even flow of rhythm, an orderly repetition and still provide a balance. Better ways of demonstrating traditional methods are taught at the Training School. Proper pinning and how to sew a curve together. will prove the success or failure of your quilt. Take time with your pressing. it makes the difference. There is basically one template used to form many different patterns. There are so many ways of piecing the templates together. that it is unbelievable how many patterns can be obtained. Time is taken during the training school to work on this, and gain the effect the individual wishes. Mrs. Paton says. the women have no trouble at all in quilting through the three layers of fabric. but the evenness of the stitches is often a problem. however, all that is needed is practice. An idea for a bedspread. is to use one of the floral sheets available on the market and quilt around the pattern. the spread could be easily ï¬nished with a fringe. SUMMARY DAY Although groups might work on a quilt and dis- play it at Summary Day. there will be a great variety of articles to see. Cushions are popular new and there should be many tote bags and purses in all shapes and sizes. wallhangings. clothing. skirts and tops. which should mean a fashion parade. After Summary Day. it is hoped this Training School will encourage women to continue to use their leisure time in the skillful artistry of needlework â€" QUILTS. 28 St. George W.I. â€" taken at Hoodless ‘Homr; on 73rd anniversary.
