Resolutions Sustained CENTRAL ONTARIO AREA 1. WHEREAS sixteen to twenty-four-year- olds are involved in thirtyâ€"one per cent of all collisions and yet drive fewer miles than adults; and WHEREAS at present there is no instructive program established for the benefit of students in ALL secondary schools: and WHEREAS instruction taken as a course in secondary school reduces the cost of insurance to the insured; and WHEREAS the instruction the students re- ceive would be far superior and much more varied to take in more aspects of mechanism, maintenance, and ability to drive than a par- ent could teach: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario do everything possible to encourage and support the setting up of this program in ALL second- ary schools. 2. WHEREAS at the present time the text- books in Public Schools. especially those in the Primary and Junior Grades. generally rep- resent all the children as being white and AnglonSaxon: and WHEREAS it is at that time in life that chil- dren are without prejudice and are especially open to suggestion; and WHEREAS new textbooks are introduced from time to time: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Federated Women‘s Institutes of Ontario peti- tion the EducatiOn Branch of the Ontario Government to reorganize the textbooks used in Ontario schools so as to be more represent- ative of children of ALL races and creeds. EASTERN ONTARIO AREA 3. WHEREAS mixed farming prices in On- tario have not kept pace with rising costs of production, making it difficult to live on farm income alone: and WHEREAS consumer prices keep rising, with the result that the farmer does not receive a fair share of the economy; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario give this problem their active concern and request that farm incomes should be adjusted to rises in the cost of living. 4.
