Added features considered noteworthy were round table discussions, standing committee conveners’ panels, demonstrations, Home Economists participating, exhibits, craft tables and singsongs. Many Directors felt that Con- ventions had more impact when moved from District to District. District Annual Meeting Discussion â€" It was stressed that the ratification of the District Di- rectors should be one of the first items of Dis- trict Annual Meeting programs, thus the Dis- trict Directors representing the branches are immediately qualified to vote. The procedure for ratification is that the secretary calls the name of the Branch and the name of its elected Director and that name is ratified cVen if it is her atternate who stands in her stead at the Annual Meeting. It is recommended that the Board Director give her report in the morning session of the day's program. The Board Director and her alternate must be elected Federation Representative and alter» nate at the District Annual Meeting. Junior Women’s Institute Report Mrs. David Brown announced two new Junior Women’s Institute Branches â€" West Lincoln Juniors, North Niagara District orâ€" ganized in Smithville September 29, 1971 with a membership of 15 girls; Phelp‘s Juniors, Nip- issing District, with 9 members. Mrs. Brown reported Junior Women’s Insti- tute Branches active with educational pro grams on parliamentary procedure. flower ar- ranging, beauty counselling, examining a demonstration kit on “Linens,” artificial res- piration, extrasensory perception, and slides on the United Kingdom. Some activities with the Junior Farmers were a drama festival, snowmobiling, bowling. hayrides. Wiener roasts. smelt fishing, and presenting a choral concert at Ontario Place. It was announced that a brochure for Jun- ior Women’s Institutes will be available soon for members and prespective members. On behalf of the Junior Women’s Institutes appreciation for support and guidance was ex- pressed to the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario and the Home Economics Branch of the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food. Each Senior Director was given a copy of the “Junior Enthusiast." Junior Women’s Institute Convention Mrs. William Kloetst'ra reviewed the Junior Women’s Institute Convention held at the Montrose Motor Inn, Niagara Falls October 15-17, 1971. Standing Committee Convenors’ Reports Resolutions Mrs. Everett Small reported that branches are taking greater interest in resolutions: more meetings were devoted to explaining the im- portance. procedure. history and effectiveness of resolutions. Panels. speakers and skits were used to discuss current subjects such as obâ€" scene literature, drugs and related legislation. new succession duty exemptions, etc. The convener urged that branches who do not have a Resolution Convener elect one at their next Election of Officers and that it is the responsibility of the Convener to report to her branch of resolutions sustained by the Provincial Board.
