Home Economics Branch Report Miss Helen McKercher, Director Home Economics Branch, Ontario Department Of Agriculture and Food expressed her pleasure at attending the 14 Area Conventions 1n the province with President Mrs. Zoeller. She conâ€" gratulated Women‘s Institutes on the tremenâ€" dous leadership they are giving and eXpressed the desire of the Home Economics Branch to help keep Women’s Institute members in- formed and to encourage them to take part 111 learning that which is new. I "Due to decreased numbers of people in agâ€" riculture,” said Miss McKereher, "it is more important than ever that we insure that the young people who do stay in this occupation have the very best training possible. We must fit them to meet the new conditions that new problems, new social obligations. new neigh- bours, etc. bring to our daily life.“ Craft courses continue to flourish and “The Knack of Sewing With Knits“ is very popular. Research work is being done in foods and nu- trition on “A Dollar’s Worth of Meat." Miss McKercher urged the coâ€"operation of those who are asked to take part in a National Nu- tritional Survey. “We have malnutrition and from this survey we may have to come up with a new food guide,” explained Miss Me- Kerchcr. There are 500 more 4â€"H Girls” Homemak- ing Club members this fall than there were last year with 2900 clubs now and approximately 29,000 completions. International Scholarship Mrs. William G. Miller reported on the In- ternational Scholarship which was raised for the 65th Anniversary, the interest from which has been assisting in training young girls in de- veloping countries. Miss Nazmiye Salman of Yalova, Turkey has been taking a course in midwifery made possible by this financial as- sistance and will assist her own people on completion of her training. The Board Direc- tors voted to allocate the balance of the Turk- ish award to another young woman in an ef- fort to help spread knowledge still further; and that $2,000 from interest on the International Scholarship be made available for training of a young girl in a developing country who shall be recommended by the Lady Aberdeen Schol- arship Committee of A.C.W.W. Women’s Institute Story Mrs. Milton Pardy, chairman of the Com- mittee composing a new historical book on the Ontario Women’s Institutes from their orâ€" ganization in 1897 to plans for 75th Anniver- sary, presented a progress report to the Board. Most of the planned material has been writ- ten and edited once. The book will be primed by the T. H. Best Printing Company and dig. cussions with their representative re paper. We, cover, cost, promotional ideas, etc. are pro. gressing.
