About 60 million persons in the world are threatened by yaws, a crippling disease. For 21/2 cents, UNICEF provides the penicillin to cure a child of yaws. About 60% of all pre-school age children suffer from malnutrition. UNICEF assists UNICEF nutrition programs in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Of the developing countries‘ 900 million children. half do not receive any formal educa- tion. Many of the rest can't get beyond grade 3 â€"- there are not enough teachers. UNICEF helps train teachers and produces teaching maâ€" terials. Other countries have pollution problems too â€" and they’re even bigger than ours. The waâ€" ter used by 90% of the population in the de- veloping world is either unsafe or inadequate, or both. UNICEF projects help provide abun- dant, unpolluted water.
