With the District Annual Meetings For presenting “Pennies For Friendship“ at the West Huron District Annual, Mrs. Fordyce Clark, a member of the Auburn Branch, dis- played a map of the world, with the routes the delegates would follow in gomg to East Lan- sing, Michigan, marked with lines made up of pennies. Mrs, Clark said: “This bright new penny has a shining future â€" it is to be one of the Pen- nies For Friendship, a link in the lifeline of A.C.W.W. Without our pennies the Associated Country Women of the World never hope to achieve even the first step toward their goal of helping the homemakers of the world. "When A.C.W.W. was organized in Stockâ€" holm in 1933. this method of financing was proposed by Mrs. Drage, the delegate from Wales. She designated the smallest coin of each country in order that every woman might give and thus have a personal share in the work. “Our contributions are received at General Headquarters, London, England, where the ex- ecutive committee meets regularly. You might be interested to know that we have been repre- sented there by the daughter of one of Huron County's first and best known Agricultural Representatives, Mr. Steve Stothers. "Every three years, A.C.W.W. meets in a world conference. Conference 68 is to be held in East Lansing at Michigan State University. This is the second time that an A.C.W.W. conference has come to the United States. The I936 meeting was held in Washington. Toron- to had the honour in 1953. “The President. Mrs. Aroti Dutt of India, who charmed us when she visited Canada last year. will preside over this conference. “We are proud that some of our West Hu- ron pennies will help to bring delegates from the sixty member countries to East Lansing, women from Greenland. from Zanzibar, from the Yukon. from Sarawak, joining with women from our Huron County. “_A.C,W.W. uses our pennies in other ways besides sponsoring the Triennial Conference. They help to run the central office, to find let- ter friends and provide introductions for mem- bers. to link institutes and groups in different Countries. to publish A.C,W.W. magazine, “The Country Woman"; to send representa- tives of country women to meetings of UN: to extend the work of A.C.W.W. through trav: els of the president. deputy presidents and area vice-presidents.
