The Secretary’s Report Mrs. Gerald Holder, Secretary-Treasurer for F.W.I.C. reported a total of 1.4l3 senior branches and 25 junior branches with a senior membership of 36,481 and S31 juniors. Life members number 2,627. Sale of supplies from the office amounted to $6,007.12. A new shipment of tea towels has been ordered and the price now will be $1.00. Mrs. Holder pointed out that if the Ontario Department of Agriculture should discontinue its support. the balances shown on financial statements Would be short-lived. We are the only province enjoying such financial support. The Tweedsmuir competitions closed at F.W.I.C. level on December 1st. At the time of reporting there were ten oil paintings and fourteen samplers. Treasurer’s Report: Mrs. Holder reported that the International Scholarship Fund shows a figure of 39.25.433.91 subscribed. with $20.- 000 invested in the Hydro Electric Power Commission of Ontario. Contributions to UNESCO Coupon No. 367 for the Northwest Territories amounts to $2,694.94 front 358 branches. The annual statement of the Hoodless Homestead fund shows receipts of $1,651.70. With the addition of bank interest. $1,700.00 was paid to F.W.I.C. $3,400.00 was paid to A.C.W.W. from Pennies for Friendship. To the F.W.I.C. Foundation Fund. F.W.I.C. paid $700.00. Mrs. Lymburner announced that early in November Mrs. Godfrey Drage pass- ved away. Mrs. Drage is the individual to whom we owe the idea of Pennies for Friend- ' so to the Memory of Mrs. Drage $300.00 was voted as a contribution from F.W.I.C. Reporting on Scholarships, Mrs. Holder said ’hat 20 scholarships were paid amounting to $1,905.00. Two scholarships were completed :15 E :5 by Simcoe County and Leeds District. During the annual Board meeting [no more cheques amounting to $1000.00 were received from Mrs. Bert Brownlee on behalf of ('ochraneâ€" Temiskaming District. and Mrs. Grant Mcâ€" Ltircn on behalf of Prince Eduard District. The Royal Winter Fair Report prepared by Mrs. Hicks Was read by Mrs, Holder. Mrs. Hicks was elected to the directorate on the Floraculturc Committee Mrs. Elton Armstrong and Mrs. Holder ut- zcndcd a meeting of the Patriotic Association to discuss action to be taken collectively to have the Canadian Government accept the Red Ensign as the official Canadian flag. The Royal Canadian Legion had an appointment with the Prime Minister. Organizations in favor. including F.W.I.O.. have added their name to this petition. F.W.l.0_ wrote a let» tcr to Prime Minister Lester Pearson re- affirming our policy with respect to retention of the Canadian Red Ensign: the official answer received was that the Prime Minixter had noted our recommendations. Resolutions Mrs. Lymburncr. Convener of the Commit- tee on Resolutions spoke on resolutions passed at the May meeting. Then she made this state- ment for area converters: "If a resolution is lost at area it should not be forwarded to the provincial resolutions convener." Mrs. Lymâ€" burner stressed the point that in submitting resolutions it is not the number that is im- portant but the quality. Much thought and re- search should go into the compilation of a resolution and added material should accom- pany it. to sustain the items listed in the resolu- tton. An emergency resolution was passed at this meeting stating that whereas there is an alarm- ing shortage of persons qualified to teach Home Economics and persons to work in hos- pitals and institutions as dietitians and food supervisors: and whereas no consideration has been given to the expansion of facilities at the Federated Colleges for Macdonald Institute in 7
