About five minutes is given to this discussion. Earlton recommends that Institute memâ€" bers have one evening annually when they go out together as a group to dinner and an evening‘s entertainment, Savard had an Education Day at the school well attended by parents; they also enjoyed their program on Safety on Steps. North McIntyre recommends a speaker from an Ontario Hospital, to speak on mental health. West Fort William. At an open meeting, had a demonstration of fire prevention by two members of the city fire department. It was so effective that other branches have since had the same program. Allanburg: “Our film and discussion on V0â€" cational Guidance was one of our best pro- gram features and a good follow-up to the FALL 1962 Farm Forum Broadcast sponsored by the In- strtutes." Many Institutes report having an address from a “remedial teacher" explaining how speâ€" cial education is given in schools for retarded children. Mosborough had a roll call "Home hazards I intend to eliminate." The report adds “and the members followed through.†Puslinch Lake reports that the information the members received from a representative of the Consumers‘ Association of Canada “will be mast helpful in buying wisely for the home and family.†West End, out of its own experience, recâ€" ommends more singing at meetings. The Insti- tute has even compiled its own song book, the work being done by one of the members on a hectograph. The books are made so that they can be added to. Adelaide Headless branch members “en- joyed the programs in which they themselves took part, or which were prepared by some of their own members.†They refer especially to a talk by a member on the Life History of Robert Burns at the January meeting and a panel discussion on The Influence of the Home, the School and the Church on a Child. Markham mentions especially a safety pro- gram with thc chief constable speaking on Markham‘s School Safety Patrols. Mark Vaun, at its citizenship and education meeting gave each member a slip of paper with Ll. topic or question rel-.1th to citizenship and education. After a few minutes to think about it each member was called on for a short talk on hot topic. A general discussion foI~ lowed. All the members took part and this was voted the most enjoyable program of the year. Eldcr's Mills found a demonstration of the setting of a Christmas buffet mcul especially interesting. Community Interests Perhaps the most general plL‘L‘C of com- munity work is sponsoring :t 4H Homemaking Club. A number of Institutes are sponsoring two clubs. South Tarenturus sent two needy children to camp. Prince gave a transistor radio to a boy suffering from muscular dystrophy. East Korah sent a Christmas basket to a family where the father had died and gifts to children who hztd lost their mother.
