Miss Nora Cunningham has recentlybeen ap- pointed a regional supervisor in the D1v151on of Public Health Nursing of the Ontario Department of Health. Her work will especially deal With maternal and infant death. In the Northern area quite a large portion of the Province is served by public health units and tree prenatal examination. At the area Womens Institute convention held at Fort William pr. Snyder, Secretary of the Ontario Medical Assocta- tion. gave a splendid address on maternal welfare. Dr. Snyder is well aware of the lnstitu'e prOJect. A copy of the brief on infant mortality pre» pared by the F.W.l.0. was sent to the Inspection Division of Public Health and Nursing. In coâ€" operation with Dr. R. O. P. Eaton a list of recom- mendations was compiled at that office by the committee in charge, Mrs. Wesley Redford. Mrs. Harry Francis and Mrs. Gordon MacPhatter. Public Relations This is the last report on Community Activities and Public Relations. This standing committee has been discontinued and in its place is the Public Relations Representative. Hundreds of newspaper clippings have been received from Miss Chapman reporting meetings and activities of the Women‘s Institute branches, From these clippings many events and projects not mentioned in the reports are found. and it is quite evident that branches are conscious of the value of the printed word in regard to public relations. Much publicity has been given through the press for publication of meetings and events. Many reports were received that radio is proving very effective in broadcasting coming events and in granting interviews. The York County Rally Broadcasting Committee made up of Women's Inâ€" stitute members representing East, West. Centre and North York broadcast from CYRH, Rich- mond Hill, every Tuesday morning. Programmes are made up six months in advance and both the radio station and the committee are very pleased with the results. A great deal of publicity through the press has been given to the Summary Days of the Leaders” Training Schools, and many clippings showed pictures of those taking part and of the articles completed. Thanks were extended to these media for the generosity of space and time. The work of the Women‘s Institute has been made better knoWn by inviting nonmembers to partake of instruction through short courses and leaders‘ training schools, and this has been the means in many cases of increasing the member- ship. The showing of films is becoming more popular. One branch shows films at the local school. Pic- tures of Women's lns‘itute events and bus trips have been taken and showu to other branches. Much interest has been shown in the new out- 12 line on Public Relations sent to the by this summer.
