HEALTH STUDY AND ACTION The Women’s Institutes of North Cochrane nave done a good deal to safeguard the health {if the people. Not long ago we had a report if their achievement in getting a dental car in serve children living in isolated parts of the iistrict. Their latest project along the lines of health service was to negotiate with the Onâ€" :ario Northland Railway to have emergency transportation in case of serious illness or acci- lent, provided for people living north of Sochrane. At the time the Institutes ap~ inroached the Railway authorities there were only two passenger trains a week running from Gardiner, eighteen miles north of Cochrane. ‘.O Moosenee, and only two freight trains as far ‘lOI‘th as Fraserdale. The Institutes through 1heir Public Relations Ofï¬cer, Mrs. Murray Young of Cochrane. also brought the problem to the attention of the Ontario Department Jf Health. Then in February of this year the Chairman of the Ontario North» land Transportation Commission wrote Mrs. Young: “1 am happy to be able now to advise you that we have obtained a station waggon equip pad to run on the rails (as well as on a country road) and which will accommodate a stretcher and other passengers. ' It is of interest that the ambulance car‘s ï¬rst maternity case was the Cochrime VVoincn‘s Institute District President, Mrs. Frances Em» pey of Island Falls. When some of the children developed a rash. an Institute incinhcr who is on the school board and another who is on the counciL asked the council to provide for having the children medically inspected.
