Mrs. James Haggerty presided at the meeting extending a warm greeting to members and thanking them for their loyal co-operation and support during her new term of ofï¬ce. Special thanks were extended to Mrs. Gordon MacPhatter, Past President; Mrs. G. Gordon Maynard, Secretary-Treasurer; three Vice-Presidents and Miss Helen McKercher, Director, Home Economies Service, who, Mrs. Haggerty said, had been a tower of strength to her in her new ofï¬ce. In her report, Mrs. Haggerty said she had attended and addressed many branches and districts celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of the Women‘s Institutes, and all were worth while memorials to the diamond jubilee of the organization. She had also appeared on radio and television in this connection. Upon request, Mrs. Haggerty said she had contri- buted many articles on the history of the Women’s Institute. She had received many invitations to attend district annual meetings which she had refused, due to the fact these are the meetings at which the District Direcâ€" tors report to their districts. Mrs. Haggerty attended the ï¬rst Provincial Leadership Forum and said the delegates from the Insti- tutes made a splendid contribution to this programme and were spreading the informa- tion they received. Mrs. Haggerty reported over $1,000 and a huge quantity of food and used clothing had been voluntarily subscribed for Hungarian Relief. THE Ontario Agricultural College with REPORT OF THE SECRETARY-TREASURER by Mrs. G. Gordon Maynard Four new branches were started this year, reported Mrs. G, Gordon Maynard, Secretaryâ€" Treasurer of the F.W.I.O. This was very en- couraging, she said, even though two branches had disbanded. There had been a drop in membership from 41,047 to 40,499. Mrs. Mayâ€" nard asked that branch secretaries advise her when a life member passes away so that she may keep an accurate check on the number of life members in the organization. She sug- gested that a list of life members be pasted in the secretary‘s book. If a branch does not know who the life members are, Mrs. Maynard will be glad to furnish a list. _Board members reported 989 Tweedsmuir Histories in existence. 1,692 letters and 534 parcels were mailed and many badges and pins were sent out.
