he resident’s orner Mrs. Gordon McPhuiter, President F.W.|.O. REA Conventions are over for another year, and for the second time I have had the privilege of attending all of these atherings in every area of our Province. I ave finished the work, filled with inspiration iven me by you, the Women’s Institute mem- ers met in conventions. Your enthusiasm, our good-will, your kindliness and in every ase your hospitality have given me a new iew of our work, and filled me with an even reater pride in our organizationâ€"and joy that am privileged to join with you in an attempt o reach even higher peaks of achievement. At many conventions I spoke briefly of a omen's Institute Garden, and closed my re» arks with a little poem, “My Garden'†by ouglas Malloch. So many have asked for this ppear that they have Well over $20,000 lying the Bank at bank interest only (11.2% or 55) instead of having this money invested t twice or better than that income, and I derstand that they are contemplating ask- g us to increase our payments to them. I would also like to point out that F.W.I.C. ow receives more from the Ontario Junior armers' Association than does the F.W.I.O_ e receive a $50 Afï¬liation Fee from the nior Farmers1 Association, whereas F.W.I.C. ceives 7c per Member. We have 1,023 Junior .1. Members, which at 7c is $71.61â€"hence .W.I.C_ receives $21.61 more from our Junior .I. Members than we do. F.W.I.C. Financial Statement is Bi-ennial; 'rs is annual, Their statement for the last -ennial term shows approximately $6,000 ceived from all Provinces for Membership 883; whereas F.W.I.O. sends them approxiâ€" ately $3,000 per year, contributing apâ€" oximately $6,000 in the TWO years. The atement which I received was NOT an udited Statement. Therefore, I would sug- st that a Motion be passed at this Board eeting requesting F.W.I.C. to submit to us Audited Copy of their Biâ€"ennial Financial atements immediately following the close their ï¬scal year and bi-ennial terms. (See Financial Statement next page) NT!!! 1956 poem that I am going to include it in my mesâ€" sage to youâ€"the members of our fine or- ganizationâ€"~83 we work always together in the interest of Home and Country. “Whoever makes a garden Has never worked alone, The rain has always found it, The sun has always shone, The wind has blown across it And helped to scatter seeds; Whoever makes a garden Has all the help he needs. “Whoever makes a garden Should surely not complain, With someone like the sunshine And someone like the rain, And someone like the breezes To aid him at his toil, And someone like the Father Who gave the garden soil “Whoever makes a garden Has, oh, so many friends! The glory of the morning, The dew when daylight ends, The wind, the rain and sunshine, And dew and fertile sod. And he, who makes a garden Works hand in hand with God." Mrs, Gordon Maci’hatlot‘. Provincial President F‘.W.I.O. CONVENERS' REPORTS Agriculture and Canadian Industries by Mrs. Stewart McDonald. “Agriculture is a basic industry, it St'lCl'll‘l‘ and an art," said Mrs McDonald. Agriculture is a God-given way or life: the man who follows it may be proud of his profession. His is, and must bv, an example to the world of the quieter way of life, of the concept of lht' relation of man and his stewardship to his Creator." In rt-vu-wing the reports Mrs. McDonald found a wide scope of interests and subjects studied through papers, ndrlrt‘sst's, discussions, ï¬lms, demonstrations and tours, Through all the reports their was a deï¬nite interest shown in Agriculture and Canadian Industries and a real desire to obtain information and in- spiration through the Institute programs.
