Winnie Dunlop is a WI Member in Kippen, Scotland and Irene Johnston was a Member of Harare WI in Zimbabwe, Africa before moving to Glasgow, Scotland where she has joined another WI Branch. These ladies thought it would be nice to show how international our ' organization really is, when Members from 3 continents come together! This past July, Chicago Blackhawks Defenceman, Nick Boynton brought the Stanley Cup to his hometown of Nobleton. What you might not know, is that Nick has a connection to WI. His grandmother, Jean Boynton, was a WI Member for 60 years. Jean was extremely proud of Nick’s success in the NHL and never missed watching his games. Her fellow Members of Nobleton WI (Central Area) always knew when Nick was playing on meeting nights because Jean would have them zip through their business. Finishing early meant that she could get home to catch his game. Unfortunately, Jean passed away in 2009, but the Members of her Branch had their picture taken with Nick and the Stanley Cup to honour him and his biggest fan, Nobleton WI Member, Jean Boynton. DID YOU KNOW? Back in our Fall 2008 issue, we got to know Jean Boynton in the "Meet the Members” section. Mar Wl's Annual Dinner The last Saturday of May means only one thing on the Bruce Peninsula â€" it is Mar Women’s Institute’s Annual Fish Dinner. Homemade pies baked by Members and friends of Mar WI (Greyâ€"Bruce Area) are served with locally caught White Fish along with all the trimmings of course! Each year the community has a chance to visit, eat, and many volunteer to help. Nearly 300 guests mark their calendar and attend this event each year.
