I Oxdrift WI Send Quilts to Wounded Soldiers Oxdrift Women’s Institute Members felt inspired by an article in the provincial newsletter entitled "Comfort Quiltsâ€. The objective of the Comfort Quilts Campaign is to send quilts to Canadian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan. The Oxdrift WI Quilt Committee selected four quilts to send onto the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency in Ottawa. From Ottawa, the quilts are flown to Landshtul, Germany to be distributed to injured Canadian soldiers. Oxdrift WI hopes that these quilts may give some comfort to the wounded soldiers and to let them know a†fellow Canadians are thinking ofthem. Displaying the quilts are President Lena Schnelzer and Quilt Committee Chair, Mabel Korkola. Wabash WI This past winter, Ruth Dudley spoke to 30 ladies at the Wabash Hall. As a direct descendent ofslaves that came to Canada via the underground railroad, Ruth has a passion for historyand her heritage. She has also been bitten by the quilting bug and made this beautiful quilt depicting the underground railroad. She explained the signiï¬cance of each block to help slaves make their way to freedom â€" like the bears paws that would lead to food and water. It was a fantastic presentation and we wish more women could have heard her speak. 10M; M 1m
