Settled primarily by Scots, it is on the shore of the Madawaska River and was part of the timber era. Some families mentioned are Anderson, Brydges, Campbell, Crane, Duff, Fisher, Forrest, Fraser, Halliday, Hamilton, Kippen, Leckie, McAdam, McCallum, McDermid, McFayden, McGregor, McIntyre, McLachlan, McLellan, McLeod, McNee, Moore, O’Connor, Richardson, Roberston, Rochester, Stewart, Stringer, and Wallace.
